Coach Austin’s involvement with gymnastics began at John Hersey High School where he competed all four years. He continued to participate in the sport by coaching in college under Olympic Hall of Fame coach Yoshi Hayasaki, who was also the head coach of the men’s team at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Austin has coached all levels, but focused mostly on girl’s recreational and team. Austin graduated from UIUC in May of 2017 with a Bachelor degree that focused on Governance and Conflict Resolution and International Security issues. He became fluent in Spanish through an internship with the Ecuadorian government and enjoyed volunteering at ECIRMAC refugee center in Urbana, Il.
Austin’s loves serving his community in many different capacities, and hopes to one day continue to do so through a career in public service. He believes that gymnastics is one of the toughest sports mentally and physically, and that practicing and coaching it can teach lessons that apply to the real world outside of the sport.
