Pathway to Team FAQ’s

What should I do if my child expresses interest in competing?

We are so excited that your child is interested in taking the next step in their gymnastics journey! Although our Team programs are by invitation only, we strongly encourage you to let the Client Services desk know if your child is interested in participating in a competitive program. Your inquiry will be shared with our Team Program Leaders.

What criteria must my child meet to be considered for a competitive Team Program?

Viking coaches look for qualities such as flexibility, endurance,  strength (particularly core and upper-body strength), form (such as pointed feet and straight legs), work ethic, positive attitude, coachability with a growth mindset, and kindness towards others. For Girls Xcel, students must successfully complete our Platinum level to be considered. For Boys or Girls USAG, students may be recommended by their instructor.

Do you have a Pre-Team?

Viking has a Developmental gymnastics program designed to help gymnasts build the fundamental skills, strength, flexibility, and discipline needed to progress to higher levels, such as our USAG or Xcel Team program. Our Developmental program is a bridge between instructional classes and our competitive gymnastics program and is by invitation only.

Do you offer team evaluations or trials?

If a coach has recommended a gymnast for one of our Developmental or Team programs, they will be evaluated by one of our Gymnastics Leaders. If the student is a strong candidate, they will be invited to participate in a trial. This trial helps assess whether the program is a good fit for the gymnast, their family, and the coaching staff.

How will I be notified if my child is invited to Team?

Our Gymnastics Leaders will email any information regarding competitive trials or invitations. If you are present when your child is seen by one of our Gymnastics Leaders, we will also try to connect in person.
